E-Business – The training
potential for year 2005 |
E-business spending is on
the rise. Gartner analysts
predict that e-business
spending will increase to
between 30 percent and 50
percent of the budget by
2005. "If an enterprise is a
conservative adopter of
technology, but its strategy
is to become a mainstream
adopter, it must increase IT
spending by at least 160
percent," says Gartner
Research Director Kurt
Potter.
The outlook for e-business
related IT training is also
looking good. This is
particularly true in the
case of security training.
“Inflexible contracts and
long-term projects no longer
exist. End users want
shorter milestones and
investments that do not tie
up capital for longer
periods. They need enhanced
security and network
integration and want to
leverage the advantages of
the latest
telecommunications
infrastructure and e-business
from e-procurement
front-ends to CRM,” Gartner
says, in a summary of its
latest services market
report.
Security Training Outlook
According to CEI’s 2004 IT
Security Study, over
two-thirds of medium-size
organizations provide
periodic IT security
training for all employees.
The study included in depth
interviews with 120 senior
IT and business executives,
defines medium organizations
as having annual revenues
ranging from $250 million to
$750 million.
EC-Council’s Certified
Ethical Hacker (CEH) has
become a leading
certification in the
security arena today.
Increasingly endorsed by the
industry and adopted by
security professionals
alike, the certificate
delivers value to corporate
and individuals alike.
Organizations are rewarding
people who are long-timers
with training; companies
look at it as an investment
in their staff.
Ed Denzler CEO of The
Training Camp, a training
company that specializes in
accelerated classroom
training on Microsoft,
Oracle, Cisco, CompTIA,
security, and Linux topics
shares that he sees lots of
action in the Linux space
leading to the Certified
Ethical Hacker (CEH)
certification. Several
training companies are
seeing added value in
positioning CEH as the next
step to MCSE for an aspiring
security professional.

Security News
According to research from
antivirus firm TrendMicro,
47% of malware detected in
October were Trojan horses,
compared with 30% the
previous month. The
company’s report quotes that
backdoor programs together
with Trojans make up almost
65% of detected malware.
This is of concern to
corporates as these malware
are the main vector for
information theft. The
report also noted that
malware discoveries were up
22% to 1,817 in October. New
variants of the MyDoom and
Bagle worms also showed a
resurgence of those pests
last month.
Sophos reported that one in
22 emails was infected were
virus in October.
Interview
Jay Bavisi, Vice President
EC-Council shares his
outlook on the certification
market.
Q. EC-Council is an e-business
certification body. How
would you comment of the
increased demand for
security certifications
compared to e-business
certifications?
A. E-Business is a reality
that is part of our everyday
life. The demand for e-business
professional certification
is certainly there. However,
no business that interfaces
with the Internet can afford
to be insecure. The current
wave for security
certifications is a prelude
to greater demand for e-business
accreditation.
Q. How would you describe
the security training market
movement globally?
A. EC-Council entered the
security space with
certifications such as
network security and the
like. The phenomenal
increase in demand for CEH
certifications is a pointer
to the proactive trend
security professionals are
adopting in order to defend
their networks.
