May 11, 2021: Following the launch of the Certified Penetration Testing Professional (CPENT) certification, CREST and EC-Council have announced a new equivalency, recognizing CPENT as the certification equivalent of the CRT.

CPENT, launched in September 2020, covers all the previous learning objectives of the ECSA with an added focus to the latest of the industry, including IoT pentesting, Operation Technology pentesting, advanced Windows attacks, writing exploits, double pivoting, and more. It is a fully online, 24-hour, remotely proctored hands-on exam that tests your skills, perseverance, and focus through a series of challenges.

This mutual equivalency for penetration testing professional technical qualifications by EC-Council and CREST will address the many questions surrounding global qualifications. It will help employers worldwide assess talent in a more informed manner and give professionals a visible professional path.

The updated equivalency recognizes the Certified Penetration Testing Professional (CPENT) qualification as an equivalent to the CREST Registered Penetration Tester (CRT) certification, so long as the candidate holds a valid CREST CRSA qualification.  CREST will also accept a valid CPSA qualification until the CRSA examination is available towards the end of June 2021. As an integral part of the process, a Code of Conduct must be signed to ensure ethical practice within the industry.

“The demand for skilled penetration testers that can test complex enterprise environment continues to grow and this agreement makes it easier for professionals to have their skills recognized by CREST and EC-Council” said Jay Bavisi, President of EC-Council Group.

With the launch of the CPENT exam, the ECSAv10 exam and the ECSA (Practical) exam will retire on May 15, 2021.
