Philippines Celebrates Anti-Hacker’s Day     

 

The Philippine-based Ateneo Information Technology Institute (AITI) together with    New York-based EC-Council organised a security workshop called “Anti-Hacker’s Day” at the Ateneo Professional Schools – Rockwell Campus, Makati City on March 23, 2004.  

 

The one-day workshop attracted some 190 participants, comprising local IT professionals such as systems administrators and network security personnel, law enforcement officers, bankers,  senior managers, corporate players and academics.  

 

Guest speaker for the day was Sanjay Bavisi, the managing director of EC-Council EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Asia)

 

Sanjay held the audience enthralled with his witty presentation on the very serious and timely subject of hacking and countermeasures.  He spoke on “Ethical Hacking – the New Defensive Strategy’, “Cyberwarfare: Can it Tick with a Click” and “The CHFI – The Cyber Warrior”.

 

AITI’s faculty member, Jonathan Miclat conducted an interesting live hacking and forensics lab demonstration.

 

The event was broadcasted to viewers on the “IT Convergence Reloaded” program on Net 25 in the Philippines. The program focussed on the pressing need for better understanding and awareness of ethical hacking and countermeasures and computer forensics in the Philippines. 

 

AITI is a division of the Ateneo de Manila University. It offers a comprehensive range of professional development courses in IT.

 

Also present at the seminar were AITI director, Edwin T. Canonizado and Wordware managing director, Wilson Wong.
