Certified Digital Marketer (CDM) is a Digital Marketing Manager who has extensive hands-on experience in the disciplines of search engine optimization, web analytics, content marketing, mobile marketing and social media. A CDM is able to demonstrate mastery in skills and knowledge of the latest digital marketing concepts and its respective applications. IIB subject matter experts have invested thousands of man hours researching the latest trend and techniques used by the digital marketing industry. CDM aspirants should have sound industry experience and should be involved in live projects..


Experts in the digital marketing profession with many years of industrial experience, and have mastered the knowledge and skills stated in the CDM Blueprint (Appendix A), they may apply to be grandfathered into the CDM certification. Grandfathering refers to the exemption of attempting the CDM certification exam.

CDM Grandfathering will close on October 31st 2014. CDM Certification Exam will commence November 1st, 2014.

  • This certification is for candidates who meet the following criteria:
    • a minimum of 5000 digital marketing experience hours (for bachelor degree holders and above) or 8000 digital experience hours (for associate degree holders and above).
    • a minimum of 1000 experience hours per domain, in at least 4 out of the below 5 domains:
      • Web Analytics
      • Search Engine Optimization
      • Social Media
      • Content Management
      • Mobile Marketing
(OR)
  • Certified Internet Marketing Practitioners (CIMP) who earned a minimum of one year of digital marketing experience in at least 4 of 5 domains, after the attainment of the CIMP credential.


 

PLEASE NOTE THAT CDM GRANDFATHERING WILL END ON OCTOBER 31st, 2014. FROM NOVEMBER 1st 2014, ALL CANDIDATEs MUST PASS THE CDM EXAM TO GET CERTIFIED.

  • Register on https://aspen.eccouncil.org. Please ensure that your email and phone number are accurate.
  • For authentication purposes, click on the verification link that you receive via email, and key in the verification code that you receive on your cell phone. For further assistance, please refer to the User Manual that could be downloaded from HERE.
  • Select CDM Application that is found in the "Application" menu.
  • Complete the online application form, that includes the following:
    • Providing your personal particulars, mailing address, and academic qualifications.
    • Providing your two verifiers contact details. (At least ONE of your verifiers MUST be your current/past immediate supervisor. No free email accounts will be accepted e.g gmail, Hotmail, yahoo, etc…).
    • Keying in your industrial experience hours in terms of employment and free lance projects.
    • Uploading your resume and a photo ID that does not include any PII (personal identification information).
    • Agreeing to IIB’s candidates terms and conditions.
  • Pay the USD 350 non-refundable CDM Grandfathering Application Fees through http://store.eccouncil.org .


What to expect?
  • A confirmation email from IIB acknowledging receipt of your application.
  • If necessary, a follow up email from IIB on the status of your verifiers’ confirmation and payment.
  • The certification decision email within 14 days from receipt of complete application, verifications, and payment.
  • If your application is approved, you will receive your CDM digital certificate with the congratulatory email. You will also receive your physical welcome kit within 4- 6 weeks from the approval date. The welcome kit consists of your physical certificate, a silver CDM ID card, a CDM lapel pin and a congratulatory letter.


Important Notification
  • CDM grandfathering will end on October 31st, 2014.
  • Please note that your CDM certification is valid for three years from date of certification.
  • You may renew your certification for another 3 years, if you are able to earn a minimum of 120 continuing education credits through EC-Council Continuing Education (ECE) program. Credits are earned by attending seminars, trainings, workshops etc…. Please refer to CDM Handbook for more details.
  • There is an annual USD 50 annual maintenance fee.

 

1.What is the difference between the CIMP and CDM?
A.

A Certified Internet Marketing Practitioner (CIMP) is a marketing professional who applies various promotional tools and techniques for marketing that support business objectives to reach customers via digital technologies. This includes but not limited to, building ecommerce websites, search engine optimization and marketing, social media, video marketing, blog marketing, mobile marketing, affiliate marketing etc…

A Certified Digital Marker (CDM) is an experienced marketing manager who has advanced hands-on skills in search engine optimization, web analytics, content marketing, mobile marketing and social media. CDM is designed for marketers involved in the operational aspects of managing and executing digital or multichannel marketing campaigns.

Candidates who have less than 3 years of digital marketing experience should apply for CIMP, whereas candidates who have a minimum of 3 years of digital marketing experience may apply for CDM. Alternatively, a CIMP who has attained at least one year of digital marketing experience after attaining his/her CIMP certification, may apply for the CDM certification.

Currently, only CIMP certified training is available online through EC-Council iClass and across IIB’s Authorized iBusiness Partners (AIPs). CDM certified training would be available in 2015. 2.What do you mean by ‘grandfathering’?
A.

Grandfathering means that if you are able to prove that you have met the minimum experience hours stated in each of the certification domains, you are exempted from attempting the certification.

3.What alternative document can you submit if you are self- employed and do not have a verifier?
A.

A verifier can be your previous/current supervisor, colleague or client that you have worked/working with. However, one of the two verifiers MUST be your previous/current direct supervisor. He/she must use their official email address to communicate to IIB.

4.Does freelancing count as experience?
A.

Yes, if the freelance project/s can be verified by a client or colleague.

5.How long is the approval from EC-Council valid for? What is the time limit to pay for the application fees from date of application?
A.

You have 14 days to remit the application fees from date of application submission. The Institute of iBusiness (IIB) will require between 7- 14 days to review your application, from the date of receipt of your fees and both verifiers’ confirmation.

6.What is the validity of my certification?
A.

Your certification is valid for 3 years from the date of application. However, if you are able to submit proof that you are keeping abreast of changes that are taking place in the industry through continuous education programs (attending seminar, webinars, trainings, certification, writing papers etc., by earning a minimum 120 continuing education credits; IIB may extend your certification for another 3 years. 7.Is there an annual fee to maintain my certification? What is the grace period to pay the fee up?
A.

Yes. There is an annual USD 50 to maintain your certification every year. The fee has to be paid within 12 months from your certification date. Failing which, you will not be able to enjoy member benefits which include applying to renew your certification for another 3 years. There is a grace period of 30 days to remit the fees, before your benefits are suspended. You are not required to remit the maintenance fee if your certification is revoked, expired or retired.

8.What do I get if my application is approved?
A.

If you application is approved, you will receive a digital certificate. Within 4 -6 weeks from your approval date, we will also mail you a CDM welcome kit to the mailing address that you have provided in your application. The welcome kit consists of your printed certificate, a congratulatory letter, a silver ID card, and a lapel pin.

9.Can I order physical printed certificate? What is the procedure?
A.

You will receive your first printed certificate free of charge. However, if you would like a reprint, the cost is USD 75.

10.Is there any training available for CIMP and CDM?
A.

Currently, certified CIMP training is only available online, or instructor led with any of our Authorized iBusiness Partner (AIP) network. CDM training will only be available in the 2015.

11.Do other certifications in the same domain compensate for the hours of work experience/ projects required in the given field? For eg. I have a certification for Social Media Marketing?
A.

Yes, for CIMP only. If you have a minimum of 1 year of digital marketing experience after attaining the CIMP certification, you may apply for CDM.

12.What sort of benefits does IIB provides for certified members?
A.

IIB member benefits include special discounts to IIB organized/endorsed events, certifications and trainings. You will have access to latest cutting edge whitepapers, e-books and webinars that will allow you to earn continuing education credits. 14.How does certification help my resume?
A.

There is a significant digital marketing talent gap between what employer’s value and what talent is available. Employers are relying heavily on subjective criteria in hiring and are observing spotty levels of knowledge, skills and experience in the most crucial area. This is due to the fact that there is no industry standard that spells out the minimum knowledge, qualifications and skills of a digital marketer.
