Six Indigenous students graduated with job offers from the cybersecurity program created by Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB) and the Joint Economic Development Initiative (JEDI) in partnership with EC-Council and CyberNB.
MARCH 19, 2022, NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA: Six Indigenous students are set to enter the cybersecurity workforce after graduating from a program created by Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB) and the Joint Economic Development Initiative (JEDI) in collaboration with EC-Council and CyberNB. The program’s alumni received job offers from Deloitte, McCain, and BulletProof.
The unique program was developed with the goal of transforming cybersecurity education and solving the sector’s significant talent shortage. Shortly after the program’s inception, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, forcing CCNB and JEDI to quickly reinvent the program to tackle the obstacles posed by the global crisis and prepare students for a post-pandemic job market.
In response to the need for a new paradigm in cybersecurity instruction, CCNB formed an academic partnership with EC-Council, which provided educational materials for students to use when remote learning was required. Cybersecurity nonprofit CyberNB’s work was also crucial in finding employers interested in hiring students for internships and coordinating interviews and recruitment.
The blended teaching method prepared students well for their 30-week remote internships with their future employers. All graduates received employment offers from their respective internship employers, testifying to the students’ determination, commitment, and ability to adapt to the ever-changing conditions of the pandemic. “We are extremely proud to be partnered with CCNB to help influence the cybersecurity workforce in New Brunswick and Canada,” said Wesley Alvarez, Director of Academics at EC-Council. “The active involvement of CCNB, JEDI, and CyberNB has created lasting results for these initial six students, and we look forward to future cohorts this year. We encourage more employers to explore cybersecurity internships with CCNB to nurture new perspectives and talent in the field as internship hiring continues to thrive.”
While these talented graduates have already found placements, a new cohort will be seeking internships beginning in spring 2022, with another session potentially beginning between spring and fall 2022.
