EC-Council and ICITP-SA Join Hands to Reduce South Africa’s IT Skills Gap Through PIVOTAL Training

EC-Council, a leading cybersecurity certification body, collaborates with the Institute of Chartered IT Professionals (ICITP-SA) of South Africa to promote critical cybersecurity skills that align with IT and security business needs.

South Africa, 15 November 2021: ICITP, a professional body recognised by the South African Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector, announces a partnership with EC-Council to foster the growth of cybersecurity skills throughout the nation.

PIVOTAL stands for Professional, Vocational, Technical, and Academic Learning programmes. ICITP is the only regulatory and governing body that can confer the Chartered IT Professional, CITP (SA), and IT Certified Professional, ITCP (SA), a professional status in the ICT sector in South Africa with international recognition. The two prestigious organisations have joined hands to build concrete steps to address South Africa’s growing cybersecurity talent gap.

South Africa faces a massive demand for a growing number of information security and cybersecurity practitioners amidst rampant digital transformation and escalating cybercrime. Meanwhile, there are not enough skilled professionals to fill open positions in the field. Through a range of professional certified programmes, the partnership seeks to pave the way for South African candidates to enhance their knowledge and skills and establish a career in the field.

Jay Bavisi, President and the CEO of the EC-Council Group, said, “The unprecedented rate at which cyberattacks are increasing is a clear indicator of the need to close the cybersecurity skills gap. We are thrilled to announce our strategic partnership with ICITP to help create more skilled cybersecurity professionals in the region. Through our range of professional credentials, we hope to encourage participants to expand their competencies and tactical knowledge. This alliance seeks to assist individuals and businesses in training and upskilling their employees to meet the highest professional standards.”

Seun Adegelu, CEO of ICITP-SA, noted, “South Africa has been facing a scarcity of skilled IT and cybersecurity professionals who can help mitigate the region’s numerous cyberattacks. Through this partnership with EC-Council, we aim to create a job-ready workforce with an elevated level of professionalism and practical skills to deal with real-life scenarios. Our mission is to produce skilled practitioners through conducting critical skills programmes and life-long learning delivered through PIVOTAL training.”

Through this comprehensive collaboration, EC-Council aims to deliver professional learning programmes (PLP) that qualify for ICITP’s professional designation, recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). ITCP is the entry-level professional designation of ICITP and was developed to provide professionals with relevant critical IT and business skills.

Every Professional Learning Programme is registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). The goal of these ICT skills interventions is to boost the fundamental skills in the region and raise cyber awareness to enable people and businesses to protect themselves from cyberattacks in the digital age. The programmes also aim to prepare individuals for critical job roles by imparting advanced ethical hacking and network defense skills.

EC-Council and ICITP’s partnership is also pivotal in contributing to the growth of the digital economy in the nation. As a Professional Training Partner of ICITP, EC-Council will deliver in-demand critical cybersecurity skills through credible training programs. Through this endeavour, EC-Council will train specialised certified experts in cybersecurity ITCP (SA), mobilise the workforce, and prepare them to combat South Africa’s growing cybercrime.
