EC-Council and Wissen Sponsor Awards for Winners of the ASEAN Student Contest on Information Security (ASCIS)

Vietnam, October 9, 2021 – EC-Council and Wissen co-sponsor the awards for the winners of the ASEAN Student Contest on Information Security (ASCIS). This contest is an integral activity of the annual event, “Vietnam Information Security Day,” organized by the Vietnam Information Security Association (VNISA) under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) and the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) of Vietnam. ASCIS is a Capture the Flag (CTF) contest for students from institutes of higher education in ASEAN. The warm-up round of the contest will be held on October 9, 2021, while the preliminary and final rounds shall be held on October 16, 2021 and November 13, 2021 respectively.

The organizer, VNISA, is Vietnam’s first non-profit information security entity involved in spreading cybersecurity awareness and providing a learning platform for the cybersecurity leaders of tomorrow. Underlining the importance of this event for the region, Hung Khong, the Vice Chairman of VNISA, says, “This contest is a key activity of the annual Vietnam Information Security Day event. Organized by VNISA, it aims to enhance ASEAN students’ knowledge, teamwork, skills, and experience in cybersecurity through the CTF competition.”

Commenting on the sponsorship, Breyvan Tan, Managing Director of Wissen International, says, “We are very honored to be selected as one of the only two sponsors for the contest. Vietnam was one of our top growth countries in the number of EC-Council certifications in 2020, and we are expecting this trend to continue in view of the talent gap in the cybersecurity industry.”

Jay Bavisi, President & CEO of the EC-Council Group, added, “EC-Council aims to provide top-notch education to cybersecurity students globally to enable them to unleash their true potential. Our co-sponsorship with Wissen at the event by VNISA has brought us one step closer to providing a better learning experience to the student community. We are excited with this partnership”.

Each member of the top 5 teams will be awarded an educational discount of 80%, enabling them to sign up for any of EC-Council’s Self-Paced eLearning certification courses with Wissen, such as C|ND, C|EH, C|PENT, C|HFI, CBP, and E|DRP. These courses come with the official e-courseware, instructor-led training modules, CyberQ labs, certificates of completion, and exam vouchers.

Besides this, EC-Council also offers members of the top 3 teams the opportunity to take the 24-hour live online Certified Penetration Testing Professional (C|PENT) exam. Depending on their score in the exam, the players can earn either one or both of the globally recognized credentials – the C|PENT Certification and/or Licensed Penetration Tester (LPT) certification.
