Top Ethical Hackers Honored by EC-Council for Tackling Mobile Breach Challenges in C|EH Compete

Tampa, Florida, March 18th, 2024: EC-Council, a global leader in cybersecurity education and training, and the inventor of Certified Ethical Hacker (C|EH) announces the winners of the February 2024 C|EH Compete Challenge. EC-Council’s C|EH compete Challenge is designed to showcase the talents of top ethical hackers, focused on mobile attack and hacking techniques, drawing participation from skilled professionals worldwide.

The challenge centered around a fictitious e-commerce company named “SecureShop,” which sought assistance in auditing its web application for potential vulnerabilities. Participants were tasked with conducting a thorough assessment based on the OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project) Top Ten vulnerabilities, simulating real-world scenarios encountered by penetration testers and security professionals.

Amid the pandemic, organizations’ adoption of new methods to access networks via private devices, often without multi-factor authentication (MFA), has resulted in a surge of successful cyberattacks and substantial insurance claims. Against this backdrop, C|EH Compete emerges as a critical platform for professionals to refine their skills and confront the evolving challenges of mobile security head-on.

The participants demonstrated exceptional skill and strategic thinking, vying for coveted positions within the top 10 on the leaderboard. Following an intense competition, Sumit Khobragade emerged victorious, hailing from India, closely followed by Gabriel Armando Rodriguez Medina from Peru and Ruben Anthony Ricapa Corrales from Peru too, securing second and third places, respectively.

EC-Council extends sincere congratulations to its Accredited Training Centers: Layer 8 Security from Peru, SSDN Technologies Pvt Ltd and Hacker School (A Subsidiary of Cartel Software Pvt. Ltd.) from India, and NTUC Learning Hub Pte Ltd from Singapore. These centers have consistently delivered exceptional C|EH training, guiding their students to excel and secure positions within the top ten ranks on the esteemed C|EH Global Challenge Leaderboard. C|EH Compete immerses participants in realistic simulations of mobile security scenarios, equipping them to detect and neutralize threats effectively. By addressing vulnerabilities within mobile applications, participants not only enhance their own capabilities but also contribute to broader efforts to bolster cybersecurity defenses against mobile breaches. In the wake of the imminent rollout of 5G technology, which promises to power even more connected devices, including IoT devices driving complex applications, the need for robust mobile security measures has never been more pressing. C|EH Compete serves as a catalyst for professionals seeking to strengthen defenses against emerging threats and uphold the integrity of digital ecosystems worldwide. The challenge attracted a diverse pool of participants, each bringing their unique expertise and insights to the table. Through simulated scenarios and hands-on assessments, participants demonstrated their proficiency in identifying and mitigating security risks, further solidifying their status as leaders in the cybersecurity community. In addition to recognizing the winners, EC-Council emphasizes the importance of cybersecurity challenges in strengthening the global cybersecurity ecosystem. These events play a crucial role in skill development, community engagement, raising cybersecurity awareness, talent recognition, and fostering continuous learning and innovation.
